VAT Assistant Manager (Compliance and Advisory) for our VAT Team in Birmingham

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation of UK VAT Returns: Preparation of  UK VAT compliance for a diverse range of clients, including large multinational corporations, SMEs, and entities across sectors such as manufacturing, chemicals, automotive, and supply chains. Ensure accurate and timely submission of VAT returns in line with UK legislation.
  • VAT Advisory Projects: Provide strategic VAT advisory services tailored to clients' specific needs, focusing on supply chain optimisation, industry-specific VAT challenges, and cross-border VAT implications.
  • Audit Support and Representation: Oversee company audits related to VAT. Act as the primary liaison with HMRC and other regulatory bodies, managing correspondence and responding to queries promptly.
  • Project Management and Process Improvement: Lead and independently manage tax projects from initiation to completion, driving process efficiencies and delivering value-added insights to clients.
  • Deadline Monitoring and Assessment Review: Proactively monitor filing deadlines, and ensure adherence to compliance schedules to minimise exposure to penalties or audits.

 

KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Certification: Successfully completed tax consultant exam (e.g., ATT, CTA, or equivalent).
  • Specialist Knowledge: In-depth understanding of UK VAT regulations, including the complexities of VAT in supply chains, manufacturing, and other industrial sectors. Experience in advising on VAT compliance for businesses involved in cross-border transactions is a plus.
  • Bilingual Proficiency: Proficiency in both English and German is desirable but not essential, enabling effective communication with a diverse client base.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in MS Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel. Familiarity with tax software and digital compliance tools (e.g., Making Tax Digital platforms) is advantageous.
  • Leadership and Teamwork: Demonstrated ability to manage teams and projects effectively, coupled with strong interpersonal skills. Able to foster collaboration and drive team performance.
  • Personal Attributes: High level of initiative and independence, with excellent analytical thinking and a structured approach to problem-solving. Demonstrates adaptability, resilience, and a passion for tax consulting.
